Psychotherapy is intended to assist people in healing and making changes to live a more fulfilling life.  The duration of therapy can be short term or long term depending on the issues addressed and an individual's needs.

Psychotherapy can be provided by a psychiatrist, psychologist, clinical social worker or licensed counselor.  The differences between these professionals is mostly related to education.  A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication and may work in conjunction with a psychotherapist that provides counseling.  A psychologist has earned a Ph.D. and can do psychological testing in addition to counseling.  The majority of psychotherapist have a Master's degree in an area such as social work, psychology, education or counseling.

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself
just as I am, then I can change."

                                                                         Carl Rogers
